Layers and layers of melted wax applied to a wooden canvas and manipulated to create landscapes with deep, rich, beautiful color.
Growing up in Maine I have had easy access to the coast. It is a wonderful place where the sea sculpts the land, and the land guides the water to create scenes which are ancient while remaining new and alive. They are dynamic forces of chaos and order. In my paintings I use those same forces of heat and wind with pigments to create the shapes and colors which we may recognize as a coastline, or any other place where nature's elements work in a destructive and beautiful harmony.
My favorite viewpoint is from the sky. When looking down, you see a snapshot of the struggle where definitions of perspective dissolve, leaving images we attempt to recognize. Is it the edge of a small creek? Or the coast of a large cove? The answer is left to the experience of the viewer.
